Parent Guild Meeting Minutes for
October 10, 2007

(meetings held at 8:30 am and 7:00pm)

 

Opening prayer from Mrs. Kelley

Mrs. Kelley:
- Pray for Fr. Bruce Flannagan’s brother, Thomas Flannagan, who passed away. Four 8th grade students will attend the service with Mrs. Kelley as representatives of the school.

- Implementation of new technology going well. Progress reports to be sent out using new software. This should help parents by providing additional information.

- 7th grade field trip to Salem today. (Trolley ride)

- 3rd grade will be receiving dictionaries from the Danvers Rotary on October 11th.

- Terra Nova testing is the week of October 16th for grades 2-8. SMA has scored well in the past. Information on test results will be passed on to parents at a later date. There is no homework given this week.

- “Challenges of Parenting” meeting is highly recommended. It will be held October 15th at Danversport Yacht Club at 7:00pm. Speaker is Catholic School motivational speaker John Findlater. Students will be given “No Uniform Today” pass if a parent attends.

- Junior High Haunted House is Friday, October 26th from 3:30 to 5:30. Dance for the Junior High later that evening from 6:00 to 9:00. This is run by the Student Council.

- This Friday, the 5th and 6th grades will have a mini-golf event sponsored by the Student Council.

 

 Joyce Buccheri (pm)/ Dawn Masterson (am):
- Thank you to ALL who helped the Parent Guild with Candy Bar Bingo. It was a big success! Thank you in particular to the Roderick family who donated prizes for the raffles, the O’Halloran family who donated “nut-free” candy, as well as all of the 7th and 8th grade helpers.

- Hospice Walk is Sunday, October 14. Please consider a donation if you are unable to walk. (see Elaine Hennessy)

 - SMA “Shopping Night at the North Shore Mall” was discussed for Sunday, November 18th  from 6:30 to 9:30pm. Dee Hurley will provide information to SMA. A ticket is required for admission. This is a community building event. There will be entertainment, discounts, promotions in stores, etc, at the mall. We will sell tickets in advance. Buy those SMA cards for that night to help the school in two ways!

- Next Parent Guild event is the SMA Movie Night: Friday, December 7th. This is for all grades Pre-K through 8. There will be a small fee for pizza and soda ($3-$4) and admission to the movie will be a donation to “Toys for Tots”. Mr. and Mrs. Santa will be there to see your child and accept their letters to the North Pole!

- October 31st is the last day for summer uniforms.

- There is a change in manufacturer for the gym uniforms per Maureen Shea. Gray SMA uniforms can continue to be worn.

- Basketball tryouts are coming up. See school bulletin for dates and times.

- There were no “cuts” for the SMA cheerleading squad.

- Plea was made for Altar servers for St. Richard’s Church. This is for children in the third grade and up.

 - There will be a parent coffee for all Pre-K and Kindergarten parents on Wednesday, October 17, hosted by the Parent Guild and Head Room Mother Sue Lucy.

 - Next Parent Guild meeting will be November 7th.

 

Auction (Cyndi DelGreco):
- Auction is in “good shape”. 290 donations have come in thus far. (80% of last years total). Donation deadline is October 12th.

- Deadline for purchase of tickets for the night of the Auction at Jimmy’s Allenhurst is October 16th. (Contact: Charleen McCarthy)

- A few new things for this year will be a “memento” for 8th grade parents, a “Kids Art Corner” for grades 4 through 7, and a mystery wine table.

 - The $10,000 raffle tickets will be sent home soon. Each family should try to sell their 6 tickets!

- The Parent Guild will make a monetary donation to the Auction.

- Next Auction meeting is October 24th. (8:30am and 7:00pm) This is an important meeting!
