Parent Guild Meeting
Minutes for
March 12, 2008
(meeting held at 8:30 am)
Opening prayer from Mrs. Kelley
Mrs. Kelley:
- Hope everyone had a nice week off over February school vacation!
- “Dress down day” on February 15th
was a success. SMA collected over $700 to help Operation Troop Support
in Danvers. People from Operation Troop Support came in to the school to
personally talk to the children and thank them for the donation. This is
a great way for the children to see “why” they give.
- The 6th grade had a field trip
to the Peabody/Essex Museum on March 11th.
- Progress reports have gone out for the
Junior High. Report Cards for Grades K through 6 will go out after
Easter.
- There will be a Liturgy for the Feast of
the Annunciation at SMA on March 25th at 8:45 am.
- The 2nd and 3rd
grade classes will have a field trip to the North Shore Music Theater on
March 25th.
- The SMA Basketball season has finished.
Great job to all athletes and coaches! The Girls Varsity Team came in
second place overall. There were two Basketball games on Sunday, March 9th
at St. John’s Prep that featured the Boys Varsity vs. the Girls Varsity
and then another game with the 8th graders vs. the
Faculty/Coaches. It was a fun event for all that attended!
- The 2nd Grade will put on the
Passion Play on Holy Thursday at 10:00 am. There will be an 11:00
dismissal that day with no busses.
- The school is looking at purchasing new
Social Studies as well as Reading and Writing textbooks. (Every year
different subject areas are selected for update.)
- The school is getting close to the
purchase of two portable Smartboards. One would be for the lower level
of the school (computer/technology) and one for the top level (grades
6-7-8).
Joyce Buccheri:
- The Parent Guild had an evening meeting during the month of February.
Rich Benevento, a Traffic Engineer, was there to discuss the
traffic/parking problems at SMA. Plans are underway to “reinforce” the
proper am drop-off procedures, especially with families new to the
school since the am procedures were adopted. A change will be
forthcoming in the afternoon pick-up process, probably involving a
pick-up in the back school yard. This will take a lot of planning and
many volunteers. This is expected to go into effect after April school
vacation. With almost 200 cars involved in the afternoon pick-up
process, we must find a way to ensure a SAFER environment for the
children at pick-up.
- St. John’s Prep is offering a Summer
Program for grades 7-12. The possibility of a Summer Program at SMA is
being discussed.
- Don’t forget that SMA collects both Box
Tops for Education and Campbell’s Labels for Education. There are bins
in the front office to collect the labels.
- The SMA Golf Tournament is coming up on
Monday, June 2nd.
- At the end of this year, Joyce Buccheri
will be stepping down as Parent Guild President and Dawn Masterson will
be taking her place.
- Joyce Buccheri and Charleen McCarthy
will be co-chairs of the SMA 50th Anniversary Celebration.
There will be an Anniversary Mass and Reception held on September 14,
2008. The 50th celebration will continue throughout the
year. Events are being planned and details will follow.
- The next Parent Guild meeting will be
April 9th.
