IMPORTANT DATES IN ST. MARY'S HISTORY

April 7, 1957

Ground breaking by Monsignor Augustine Hargedan Dean.

 

July 16, 1958

Laying of the cornerstone by Archbishop Richard Cushing.

 

September 1958

School opens! The Sisters of Notre Dame de Namur welcome 255 pupils in the first three grades.

February 1963

Cardinal Richard Cushing creates a new parish in Danvers, Saint Richard. While the new church was

under construction, St. Mary School Auditorium became St. Richard’s Church.

June 1964

The first graduating class of 47 receives their diplomas.

SEPTEMBER 1964

The new east wing of the school opens. This added a library and faculty room to the basic facilities and

brought the number of classrooms to 24.

 

1973

St. Mary’s School Board is formed.

1974

The Kindergarten Program is introduced.

 

1993

Extended Day Program is initiated.

1997

Opening of  Pre-K for four-year olds, and Extended K program.

2000

Construction of new Office, Chapel, Music, Band, Art, Technology, and Learning Centers

Establishment of a full Development Program

 

2002

Auditorium renovations completed including new lighting, HVAC system, floor, and basketball hoops

 

Today St. Mary of the Annunciation School is thriving with 500 students attending grades Pre-K - 8. The faculty includes one Sister and 32 lay teachers who provide a quality education for the children of Danvers and twenty-four other surrounding cities and towns.
